In reading class a few weeks ago, we read a short story by Haruki Murakami called タクシーに乗った吸血鬼、“takushii ni notta kyuuketsuki” or in English, something along the lines of “The Vampire That Rode a Taxi”. The Japanese word for vampire is very interesting. 吸 means to suck, 血 is the kanji for blood, and 鬼 refers to demons, thus vampires can be simplified to demons that suck blood XD. Now, Haruki Murakami writes some very strange stories, and I enjoy the few I’ve read in English but his works in Japanese not only play tricks on the reader plot-wise, but use Japanese in a very unique way. I really don’t want to type out this story so I will summarize.
“Love is giving someone the power to hurt you terribly and hoping that they don’t. And we never trust as easily as the first time.”
Yes.
